Stained Glass Window Cookies have become a tradition in our family and we make them every year at Christmas time. I admit these are not my favorite cookie to eat (you end up with a crunchy cookie more than a soft one), but the kids have so much fun making them and people enjoy receiving them because they are so pretty.

These Stained Glass Window cookies are a fun activity for kids and adults to enjoy - and eat - during the holiday season.
Ingredients
  • 1 bag Jolly Ranchers candy
  • 1 batch homemade or prepared sugar cookie dough
  • cookie sheets lined with aluminum foil
Instructions
  1. Divide jolly ranchers in piles by flavor. Remove wrappers.
  2. With food processor, crush jolly ranchers into tiny pieces or even a fine powder.
  3. Roll out sugar cookie dough and press out larger shapes, then a smaller inner design.
  4. Place cut out cookies onto foil -lined baking sheets.
  5. Carefully spoon crushed jolly ranchers into inner cut-out design.
  6. Bake at 350 for 8-9 minutes or until jolly rancher pieces are fully melted and cookies are done.
  7. Remove from oven and allow to cool until center candy has hardened. Carefully peel cookie away from foil.

We enjoy using lots of different fun cookie cutters.

Remove wrappers from Jolly Ranchers. Attempt to stop your family from eating them all before the cookies are made.

Using a food processor, crush jolly ranchers into fine bits or even a powder. You can do this by hand by placing jolly ranchers in a ziplock bag and crushing with a rolling pin, but we found this was difficult. A food processor works much better.

Roll out cookie dough and cut into large shapes. Then, cut a smaller shape in the center of each cookie. Be sure to put the cookies onto a foil-lined cookie sheet. Once the cookie has cooled, peel off the foil.

For the inner, smaller design on each cookie, use a small cookie cutter or simply cut away the center with a butter knife.
