Recipe Description
Recipe submitted by: Annette Doughty Wages
3 cups flour
2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp salt
4 to 6 tablespoons of lard or vegetable shortening (some people prefer lard.. I had none so I used shortening)
1 1/4 Cups water
Mix dry ingredients
Then cut lard or shortening into bowl until you can form a small clump in your hand without it crumbling. If it still crumbles, add more shortening, if it forms a hard clump add more flour.
Once you’ve mixed all ingredients, add the water while quickly stirring until it forms one mass. Roll mass around sides of bowl to get all the flour, then cover and let rise for 10 minutes.
Once its risen begin pulling off about 1 inch pieces and form small dough balls until all dough is used. Let those sit for 10 minutes.
Pat the ball into a small disc, lay on a lightly floured surface roll out to your desired thickness.
I used a comal on medium heat. Lay tortilla on comal, and wait for on side to bubble, then flip!
Yields 15-20 depending on size, and I did it all in abou an hour. (This was my first shot though. Hopefully Ill get a better pace going the better I get.)
